Shakespeare’s Other Stage

The Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, next to the Globe Theatre in London, is an indoor venue inspired by candlelit theatres from Shakespeare’s time. Named after the Globe’s founder, it echoes the Blackfriars Playhouse used by Shakespeare’s company from 1609. Though not a replica, it recreates the atmosphere of the era with over 100 beeswax candles. Open year-round, it hosts plays, concerts, and events, with its main season running from October to April. The design is based on 17th-century blueprints by John Webb. Built into the original Globe site, it was completed in 2012. Modern features ensure performances remain safe and authentic

A Walk between Two Worlds
