Dare to Enter the Clink?

Step into the grim history of The Clink, one of England’s oldest and most infamous prisons. Dating back to 1144, it housed everyone from petty criminals to political rebels and priests. Located in Bankside, it operated under the Bishop of Winchester’s rule. The name “Clink” likely comes from the sound of irons locking. Over centuries, it survived revolts, imprisonments for trespass and debt, and even executions. The prison was destroyed in 1780 and never rebuilt. Today, The Clink Prison Museum preserves its legacy through original stonework and eerie artefacts
