Calling Nature Lovers: See Rare Orange Seals just 2 Hours from London!

For London's nature lovers, wildlife encounters can feel hard to come by - unless you love pigeons and foxes, that is. But travel just beyond London's borders and there's plenty to find for those who know where to look.

Essex is home to a delightful wildlife haven absolutely full of playful seals. Hamford Waters near Harwich boasts a large seal colony, including the unique orange seals. A two-hour drive from London, it makes the perfect spot for some weekend wildlife-watching.

The area is home to both harbour and grey seals, which have an unusual colour due to the iron oxide-rich mud they often relax on, giving them their distinctive orange hue for much of the year.
